Yes, the picture looks like Andalusian mosaic art.. I haven’t enriched my brain enough on that era of Arabic/Islamic history but hopefully will in the near future. I hope to get the chance to visit Spain one day to see and be touched by all the Arab history there..

I know how frustrating it can be, but non-Arabic readers can always translate the Arabic posts with a click of a button (praise the lord for google and other translation websites) non-English speakers of Arabs can also translate my English posts too..

I’m still not sure to be honest.. haha

My English is still not as good as I want it to be.. I want to be able to write in a presidential, aristocratic style too (has it’s benefits and moments)..

And,, um.. by *illuminate them*.. I mean, non-English speakers.. but yes, you should learn Arabic. I think it’s becoming very popular lately -notice how many schools and universities are offering Arabic courses these days?- I wished it didn’t take a world war to see people learning Arabic and taking belly dancing courses

Salaam, I suppose as someone who converted to Islam from Christianity it would come as no surprise to learn that I studied the Eastern religions heavily before I found Islam. I never did study them with the intent of practising but with the intent of searching for similarities and better ways of living, ie meditation etc.

I have great respect for the study that the eastern religions- particularly Buddhism- have done on chakras and energy currents in the body. I don’t personally believe that those ideas are against Islam. Surely there are things that only God knows such as how He created our bodies and the flow of energy through them, trying to understand it by studying the Buddhist ideas on the subject, doesn’t negate our belief or worship of our One God.

Its nice to know I’m not alone.

The Tao Te Ching was one of my favorite reads, not just from the poetry side of it, but some of the wonderful ideas. You should check it out if you haven’t already.

Saudi Arabia employs about 2 million Bengalis as cheap labor for a massive number of jobs while the Saudi unemployment rate is unofficially reported to have reached 35%…………I say how skilled are Saudis to fulfill the employment rate?

I would like to say one more thing about a similar case was in the news when a Pakistani girl was been raped by a Saudi.The girl was named as the accused and the saudi guy was not even touched by the police.The unnamed man warned her that she would be imprisoned if she went to police, and said that the Saudi sponsor who brought her parents to the country through a Pakistani agent would have them all expelled.This is what happens here.I might sound harsh to saudis but this is the truth and some people say the country gave them a chance to work on its land and this is the way they reward it.I say look around before you leap.And for kind info i’m not Bengali that i’m supporting them.

Yeah i think it’s really a shameful,inhuman act.But raising fingers against them when you are not really sure that the rapists are Bengalis and the victim a Saudi.I would rather say Saudis are human traffickers and how the hell they say they allow them to work in their land when they abuse them.They treat them like animals,don’t give them proper facilities when they employ them.I know the condition over here.Local Saudis are illiterates,barbarians.This kind of cases are common in this backward country.

Well quite interesting stuff you have here. Like the effort you’re making. Regarding the following post of yours, well like that Bengali brother said of ours that every country has good and bad, I think it is exactly the same with the religious police. You may say Majority of them or Most of them but cannot generalize all of them. I personally have met both sides. One who screamed at us to pray Isha while we were in our shorts sweating during soccer. Other was when I was in a family only mall alone with my cousin, who greeted me very nicely and requested us to join our families cuz the guards in the mall would cause problems to us.
I understand such stuff makes everyone angry, but you cannot categorize the whole group or organisation like that. We never know what is inside the person.
Again, Im not in full support of them.

I saw the video! when my employer told me about this video and he show this clip in his mobile .After i saw this clip I understood and sure that’s outside if kingdom .And the girl is not Saudi. If anyone hearing her voice just think out this its Saudi or others language . than I asked my employer that Saudi?……..u also think it. After one day when I research in web than I got it . before 7 month 5 afghani guy raped a Iranian girl. In U A E border. same clips and same picture that al Riyadh Newspaper shown.
Otherwise Who heaved the evidence the are Bengali? I am hearing some word ” jaldi koro” is this word Hindi-urdu-bangla-and afgan”same means .!!!!!!!!!!! PLS thought about that…..

So did the original article mention how long it would be before women would be allowed drive?? Passing the bill is one thing but actually allowing women on the roads is another! OK, I don’t relish the thought of joining the crazies on the roads here in Riyadh but there are times when I am utterly stuck because I am not allowed to drive here.

My wife has had a few incidents like that. They expect her to break out in this FOB accent and when the American accented, university educated English comes out of her mouth they do not know what to think.

As a white American who speaks a fair amount of Arabic, I have to say I have had kind of the same stuff happen to me. Arabs speaking in lines waiting to check out, talking in Arabic, never thinking that the white dude in front of them speaks Arabic.

I have tattoos that I got before I converted to Islam, yeah, I’m an idiot. I had a couple of young guys talking behind me once in Arabic about my tattoos, nothing too rude, but it kind of annoyed me that people use their language to talk about people.

I waited a couple of minutes and turned around and asked “Intu min fen”?

After about 30 seconds the one guys says “ne7na….ana……min Musr”. The look on their faces was classic. A real YouTube moment.

little of saudi ppl confess that they treat the foreigners bad. I have post in arabic language in my blog called foreigner in KSA and they fight me in the comment, emails. As i said something never ever happen in KSA. I think we will have many many history stories in future 2 say it 2 our children. About the 1st licences 4 the 1st woman.The most funniest and dangerous story is how the saudi men react when he sees a women drive. I think the React for the saudi society will be hard, tough, and maybe destructing specially the nomadic. maybe they will terrifying every driving women so she will never drive again.

I understand that you’re still new in the country. Meanwhile, I can see in your writing how you notice different things people do and you really succeed at make your posts interesting.. You do not have to criticize , but I honestly thought about (oh wow! she really must be on an adventure).. I also wanted to observe how the two realities are different from your eyes and how you feel about living there. Understanding “their world” will only be attainable if you learn Arabic, not many American women get to live there let alone having a beautiful family and becoming “one of the people”..

I love your blog too! You have got some really great and interesting stuff here – lots of “food for thought!” I would love to delve into more serious subject matter myself, but I must admit, I am “cluck, cluck” a little bit chicken. I still feel like I am a guest in this country, and I am not a Saudi. Yes, I can have an opinion, but I don’t know that my place is to criticize, especially on the more serious issues. Thanks for the post. I do think that I believe the same as you do in regards to Buddhism. It’s such a shame that the majority of Muslims have disregard for Buddhism. Many people regard them nothing but idol worshipers! I was curious to know about Buddhism until I got a book that tells history and teachings of Buddha, which I find it very close to Sufism.
